When you hear the words "safe house," most of us visualize a peaceful home, situated on a large piece of property, maybe facing a wonderful river, and all is full of calm and peace.

At Turning Pointe, we know that such places exist. We know that these "safe homes" offer calm and peaceful havens to women and children who have experienced violence and pain in their lives. We also know that the volunteers who offer their homes, as "safe" shelters to these women and children, tell us how gratifying the experience is.

The "safe home" provider is someone who has a heart as big as Texas. They are people that live in Mason County (maybe your neighbor) and they just "want to give back." They open their home to women and children maybe once a month, never more than twice a month. The women and children stay within the "safe home" for not more than five days, and the Turning Pointe Advocate works with the women and children exclusively. These providers have seen first hand women and children move out of the violence and chaos, and into a new life, a safe life.

The "safe house" idea isn't something Turning Pointe thought up, it has been happening for thirty plus years throughout the country. In Washington State alone thousands of "safe homes" exist, offering new beginnings for women and children who experience domestic violence.

Many communities throughout Washington State rely on "safe homes" to provide a safe, secure haven, where families can begin the process of starting over, and Mason County is no exception. We need you. More importantly, we need someone like you, who is ready to "give back". Your home will remain confidential and we offer training and orientation for you and your family, along with 24hour advocate support. We think this volunteer opportunity is one that will enrich your life, and offer a brand new day to women and children who thought new days were impossible.
